VCU Golden Alumni Day
Come to campus for our Golden Alumni Day, May 13! Celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the classes of 1970-1973 along with other graduates who came before them. This day offers opportunities for VCU to celebrate your legacy as a golden alum, one of those who helped to define the VCU of today. Watch the Class of 2023 graduate, tour campus, share memories and reconnect with other golden alumni.
Schedule of events
VCU Commencement assembly
Gather for the 2023 University Commencement where you will be recognized as a 50 year or more graduate of VCU. All alumni who graduated prior to 1974 are invited to participate. Wear an official Golden Alumni stole during Commencement. Stoles are available for purchase. If you have an older version of the stole, you can exchange it for a new one or borrow one to wear on this day. A light breakfast will be provided.
When: 8 a.m. Saturday, May 13
Where: Greater Richmond Convention Center, 403 N. 3rd St., Richmond, VA 23219. Enter through the Marshall Street entrance. Stoles will be distributed on the second floor, Room E20. Parking is available in the parking garage adjacent to the convention center or in one of the many surface lots in the area. Parking fees apply.
Cost: $25 for the stole. If you have an older version of the stole and would like to exchange it for a new one, or if you would prefer to borrow one for free to wear this day, email Diane Stout-Brown (B.S.W.’80/SW) at dstout@vcu.edu.
This event does not allow for a guest to attend.
Lunch and campus tour
Enjoy a light lunch before embarking on your campus tour. All Golden Alumni are invited. Tour the MCV and Monroe Park campuses by shuttle bus and learn about new facilities and the exciting growth and development at the university.
When: Noon–2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13. Tour leaves promptly at 1 p.m
Where: Shuttle departs from the VCU Development and Alumni Relations Building, 111 N. 4th St.
Cost: No charge
Milestones and memories
VCU Libraries Special Collections and Archives offers yearbooks, old newsletters and publications, photos and memorabilia. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and learn about your history at the university. Drop by between 2-4 p.m.
When: 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 13
Where: James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave.
Cost: No charge
50th anniversary celebration dinner
Enjoy an evening of food, fun and memories. Alumni of both campuses will be honored at this Golden Alumni dinner where you will receive a special pin designating you as a Golden Alum. This year, we celebrate the classes of 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973. If you graduated previous to these years, please join us for this annual event in recognition of our 50-year graduates.
When: 6 p.m. Saturday, May 13
Where: VCU Institute for Contemporary Art, 601 W. Broad St. Parking available in the adjacent QQ Lot or the EE Lot directly across Grace Street.
Cost: Free to alumni in the classes of 1970-1973; $30 per guest for all others. Includes a hearty buffet dinner and cocktail hour.
