VCU exceeds Giving Tuesday goal

More than 300 donors made a gift to the Virginia Commonwealth University Ram Pantry for Giving Tuesday, held this year Dec. 3, raising a total of $16,533.

In 2018, 39.5% of VCU students reported concerns of food insecurity.

Ram Pantry receives food donations from private citizens and commercial entities and provides in-need students with healthy, culturally appropriate emergency food. The funds raised will help Ram Pantry stock more and healthier provisions.

Giving Tuesday is a global day of primarily online giving that takes place annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

VCU’s online effort for Ram Pantry exceeded its fundraising goal of $15,000.

“Even one meal to a hungry student would be considered a success,” says Michael P. Andrews (M.S.’05/E), executive director of annual giving, whose office organized the effort. “Our VCU family gave enough to cover almost 5,500 meals. That’s a lot of full bellies.”
